The Bishop’s Well

The International Diocese is committed to supporting The Bishop’s Well, a ministry of The Ekklesia Society.  Ekklesia is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, composed of Anglican Bishops and Archbishops around the world, that is saving lives by helping to provide clean, safe water. Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease and kill more people around the world every year than all forms of violence—including war!

How it works

Drilling rig

We are working with Water for the World (sometimes called W4W). They are a ministry of the Assemblies of God church and have donated a $500,000 water-well drilling rig to be used in Kenya.  Ekklesia has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with W4W and the Anglican Church of Kenya to help deploy the rig to have the best possible impact in the drought-stricken nation.

What is needed

Although the drilling rig is donated, we still must raise money for the pipe, pumps, tanks, drill bits, fuel, and all the other expenses associated with drilling the wells. The rig saves us a tremendous amount of money, but it can still cost $25,000 for each “bore hole” to be installed because sometimes we have to drill to 600 feet. That is not very far, however, when we consider that people  currently are walking as far as seven miles for water, when it can be found 200 yards away, underground.
