Emmanuel Anglican Church, Raleigh, NC

Fr. Mbugua

In June 2012, Bishop Atwood announced the enthusiastic reception of the Rev. Lawrence Mbugua as priest and the naming and launching of Emmanuel Anglican Church, Raleigh, N.C., a congregation composed of people from Kenya.

In addition to one confirmation and the commissioning in Christian service of the rest of the congregation, the Anglican/African celebration, complete with Swahili choruses and dancing, included the distinguished presence of Archbishop Eliud Wabukala, Archbishop of Kenya.

As part of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Fr. Mbugua led the congregation in making a special offering in support of the orphanage that Archbishop Wabukala established in his home in Bungoma after the death of his first wife.  Named after his late wife, it, too, includes the name Emmanuel:  Mama Caren Emmanuel Children's Home.  Archbishop Wabukala spoke on the close partnership that ACNA enjoys with the Anglican Church of Kenya.
